After being abandoned by Theseus on the island of Naxos, Ariadne was found by and married Dionysius, god of festivity, drinking, fertility and vegetation. He gifts her a crown in the form of a garland of flowers or wreath). Eventually, Ariadne passes away (as she is a mortal).
