Created and ritually consecrated according to the rites of astrological magic on May 24, 2023, this oil is infused with the most rare and refined qualities of Venus and the Moon in her own abode of Cancer. The key word for the ‘Garden of Delights’ collection is cultivation: of qualitative friendships & social connections, of one’s inner garden where resources are found, and of lasting peace & tranquility. Joined together, these planets form a powerful, healing and nurturing duo which come to soothe and calm the mind, body and spirit. As a moist, temperate and nocturnal planet, Venus brings in a sweetness and ease in the fruitful Cancerian waters: from a deep ocean, we move into a lush, sweet-scented garden. When creating this collection, my focus was placed on the healing of “mother” wounds. Magic is relational, and it is also the sum of the astromage’s own experience. It is also a goal-oriented practice: in ancient times, the talisman maker captured an important planetary alignment, but the talisman- seeker primarily sought one for a specific need: curing a disease, finding a suitable match or love, fulfilling a request... As a talisman-maker, knowing where I am coming from and what I seek in a talisman is primordial. The Moon-Venus in Cancer collection comes from a deep wish to explore maternal wounds in their many forms, as I understand them.
What does healing mother wounds mean? It means listening and caring for the parts of ourselves that are not appreciated or seen as deserving of care. Mother wounds take many forms, and do not always occur intentionally or stem from a maternal bond. Mother wounds can manifest as a need to constantly justify our existence, or why we are deserving of love. Going head first into these complex questions can result in fear or pain, which is why this oil is intended as a gentle, gradual ease into these matters, rather that an “all at once” dive into them.
This collection is multifaceted: I underlined the importance of community, which is an essential feature of the second decan of Cancer. In ancient times, the decans or faces (3 subdivisions of 10° for each zodiac sign) where thought to be ruled by different spirits/gods, granting specific powers and virtues to each. Cancer II is traditionally ruled by Mercury, and is a particularly social decan. Here, the fertility of Cancer serves camaraderie purposes: lighthearted and prodigal, yet carefully cultivated, this decan is ideal to facilitate social bounds which favour quality over quantity. With Venus in this decan, having triplicity translating into communal support, Venus is ideally placed to favour authentic and carefully chosen social connections.
